What Kind of Wedding Favors Should You Choose?

By: Gail Leino

Decorating the reception hall can be one of the most difficult tasks in the wedding planning process. Although it’s easy enough to know what to do about things on the wall and the ceiling of the hall, and even the flowers and other decorations for the tables, choosing the wedding favors for the guests can take some ingenuity and thought.

The wedding favors do not need to be elaborate or expensive; they are just a token of appreciation from the bride and groom to the wedding guests. Simple gifts such as a mixture of candies wrapped in colorful netting, miniature candle or small knick-knacks that the guests can take home are appropriate gifts. In addition to the token favors, if you have placed flowers on each table, you can offer each couple one of the flowers to take home with them, or you can place a sticker with a number underneath some of the chairs, and those that have the chair with the sticker can take home a flower.

The idea behind the favors is not for the bride and groom to shop for anything expensive, but just something small. The favors can even be a single artificial flower or some other token of appreciation. You don’t want to divert attention away from yourselves to the guests by the size of your favors, but just show that you noticed their presence and are happy they chose to share this special day with you.

If you have a substantial number of guests at your wedding, and you are on a tight budget, consider going to one of the dollar stores in your area to pick up the favors, and then at the wedding or party store, pick up some pretty paper or netting with ribbon in which to package it. Whichever favors you choose, just remember, they are just token gifts, no more.
