Every bride wants her day to be nothing less than perfect, but these days everything to do with a wedding seems to come with a hefty price tag. But, believe it or not, there are ways that you can make cutbacks and really save yourself some money. Here’s how to do it:- Why not make and decorate your own cake? There is usually a Christmas cake recipe or two in most cookery books that you can follow if you want a fruit cake. Sponge cakes are becoming increasingly more popular nowadays too and these are cheaper to produce than fruit cakes. If you are not a great cook yourself, one of your family or friends would probably be only too pleased to make it for you. The cake can then be decorated with fresh flowers on the day to co-ordinate with bouquets and button holes. Alternatively, you could make or buy small iced cup cakes and arrange them on a triple tiered cake stand. This saves a fortune on icing and decorating and creates a modern centrepiece at your reception. Combine Favours and Cake together! Rather than splashing out on a lavish wedding cake and favours for your guests, you could blend the two together in the form of a ‘favour cake.’ A favour cake is still visually pleasing and guests can take a filled favour box home with them. This also cuts down on time and hassle of caterers having to slice a cake up for you. Also, it can be purchased and stored months before the big day and designed to co-ordinate with flowers and bridesmaid dresses. Have a late afternoon celebration. This way you do not need to feed your guests twice! After the marriage ceremony, guests can enjoy a buffet or a light sit down meal with a glass of champagne. If the food is arranged for 5 or 6pm, there is no need [and no time!] for further feeding later in the day. You could opt for a fish and chip supper to add the novelty factor and keep the cost down. Buy your wedding dress from a dress agency. Rather than spending out for an overpriced new gown, why not contact a dress agency and see what they have got to offer. You’ll find the dresses in pristine condition, without so much as a pull or mark and they will all be freshly dry-cleaned so what have you got to lose? If this isn’t for you, why not wait until there is a sale on in your local bridal store and benefit from reduced gowns? You could even speak to the proprietor of the shop and ask her to keep an eye out for reduced cost gowns for you. Send your wedding invitations by email! This is a great idea because it saves on having invitations made, postage costs and handwriting all those cards! You and your partner could get creative with a design that may include a digital photograph of yourselves. You can then ask guests to e-mail their reply and this way you can keep on top of RSVP’s, rather than paper replies being stuffed in a drawer! Get your guests to give you themselves as wedding presents. No doubt, you have friends who could arrange the flowers, make the cake, make the bridesmaid dresses, take the photographs, lend you their barn, act as a DJ for the evening etc. Rather than have presents from these guests, ask them nicely to help with other areas of the wedding. They will probably be only too pleased to help you out and they will also feel more involved in the whole occasion. Last but not least, why not get married abroad!? This is rapidly becoming a more appealing option for brides who cannot justify the expense of a wedding in this country. If you choose to marry abroad, you can take a select number of guests with you who will of course, afford their own flights and accommodation. Ceremonies, floral arrangements and photographers are often a third of the price abroad and often just as good quality. Generally, the wedding outfits are more lightweight if you are going somewhere hot and therefore less expensive. Also, if are tying the knot on the beach, you don’t need the added expense of bridal shoes. You then don’t have to travel very far to your honeymoon – maybe just the hotel next door!
